After completing Auguste Descarries’ Quatuor, Shegolev was encouraged to write an academic article about his experience. Entitled Le language musical d’Auguste Descarries (1896-1958): Le point de vie d’un compositor chargé de l’achèvement de son Quatuour pour violin, alto, violoncello et piano, it was published in Les Cahiers Society québécois de recherche en musique Vol 16 Nos 1 & 2 – 2015.
The McGill Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Boris Brott will be interpreting Aubade, by Auguste Descarries which was originally a piano piece until it was fully orchestrated by Aleksey Shegolev.

Aleksey Shegolev will be presenting a master class at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music on the components of a memorable melody. Topics that will be discussed include what is a catchy melody, the importance of melodies in the modern music world and the detailed analysis of the construction of melodic textures in the repertoire.

Stella Musica is a festival celebrating the achievements of women in music. On March 24th, three excerpts from Louise Gareau-Desbois and Aleksey Shegolev’s Maisonneuve & Mance will be featured. Ô Langres and Ava Maria will be interpreted by mezzo-soprano Caroline Gélinas who will also be singing the opera’s Finale in collaboration with four more members from the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montreal.
